Although facemasks, buffs, and balaclavas have long been fashion staples for skiers and snowboarders, it wasn’t until the 2020/2021 season that we were all of a sudden required to wear a non-perforated mask that covered both our nose and mouth while in public spaces such as the base area and chairlift unloading zones to prevent the spread of COVID-19. At first, things didn’t go so well. Skiers and riders soaked their traditional buffs with their breath while fogging up their goggles at the same time. Many are still attempting to wage this war of attrition against persistent fogging and wet buff syndrome but after this weekend, we’re confident that we’ve found the perfect solution to fit this strange ski season.
So without further ado, we’d like to introduce the Ski.com audience to these incredible, two-layered balaclavas and neck gaiters by BlackStrap Industries. Made out of a patented “tri-blend fabric” that features 4-way stretch, these facial coverings stay remarkably dry and allow for incredible airflow that prevents foggy goggles. In all seriousness, you can ski bell to bell with these balaclavas and neck gaiters over your nose and mouth. No need to pull your mask down while you’re on the slopes, just ski and ride safely without having to always mess with your facemask. Here are Ski.com’s two favorites.
